How do I measure for a Custom Big Green Egg Cover (Nest + Handler, Straight Egg Mates)?
This guide explains how to measure your Big Green Egg on its nest with handler and straight Egg Mates for a custom-fitted Kuvr® Big Green Egg Cover, including each required measurement, where to take it, and how to record it accurately. There are 9 measurements to take, labelled A to I.
Important
Provide exact measurements with no extra allowance added. Kuvr® adds a standard tolerance of +25 mm (1 in) to the width and depth for a comfortable fit; no allowance is added to the height. You can measure in centimetres, inches, or metres — you choose your preferred unit when you configure the cover.

The measurements
A — Total width
The overall width across the whole unit including both Egg Mates, from the outer edge of the left Egg Mate to the outer edge of the right Egg Mate.
B — Total depth
The front-to-back depth at the deepest point, measured from directly above.
C — Total height
The vertical height from the floor up to the very top of the chimney cap.
D — Width of right Egg Mate
The width of the right-hand Egg Mate, measured out from the Egg to its outer edge.
E — Width of left Egg Mate
The width of the left-hand Egg Mate, measured out from the Egg to its outer edge.
F — Diameter (width) of top smoke exit
The width across the metal chimney cap at the top of the lid.
G — Height to top of Egg Mate
The vertical height from the floor up to the top surface of the Egg Mates.
H — Diameter (width) of Egg at widest point
The width across the ceramic Egg at its widest point.
I — Depth of Egg Mate
The front-to-back depth of an Egg Mate.
Frequently asked questions
Do I include the chimney cap in the height?
Yes. The total height is measured to the very top of the metal chimney cap on the lid, with the lid closed.
Which guide should I use?
Choose the guide that matches your setup — the Egg on its own, on a nest with handler, on a nest with straight or angled Egg Mates, or built into a table. If you’re between options, send photos and we’ll confirm the right one.
Should I measure the metal bands and hinge?
Yes. For the widths, measure to the outermost points — including the metal bands, the rear hinge and any side handle — so the cover clears them.
Can I measure in inches?
Yes. Measure in centimetres, inches, or metres — you choose your preferred unit when you configure the cover. Keep the same unit throughout.
