How do I measure for a Custom Big Green Egg Cover?

This guide explains how to measure your Big Green Egg for a custom-fitted Kuvr® Big Green Egg Cover, including each required measurement, where to take it, and how to record it accurately. There are 5 measurements to take, labelled A to E.

The measurements

A — Total width

The overall width at the widest point, measured horizontally from the outermost point on one side to the other — include the rear hinge and the side handle where they stick out.

B — Total height

The vertical height from the base up to the very top of the metal chimney cap, with the lid closed.

C — Height to top of handle

The vertical height from the base up to the top of the side carry handle (the black band handle).

D — Diameter (width) of top smoke exit

The width across the metal chimney cap at the very top of the lid.

E — Diameter (width) of Egg at widest point

The width across the ceramic body at its widest, measured through the centre band.

Frequently asked questions

Do I include the chimney cap in the height?

Yes. The total height is measured to the very top of the metal chimney cap on the lid, with the lid closed.

Which guide should I use?

Choose the guide that matches your setup — the Egg on its own, on a nest with handler, on a nest with straight or angled Egg Mates, or built into a table. If you’re between options, send photos and we’ll confirm the right one.

Should I measure the metal bands and hinge?

Yes. For the widths, measure to the outermost points — including the metal bands, the rear hinge and any side handle — so the cover clears them.

Can I measure in inches?

Yes. Measure in centimetres, inches, or metres — you choose your preferred unit when you configure the cover. Keep the same unit throughout.
