How do I measure for a Custom Outdoor Run Cover (Type G)?

This guide explains how to measure your outdoor run (Type G) for a custom-fitted Kuvr® Rabbit Hutch Cover, including each required measurement, where to take it, and how to record it accurately. There are 4 measurements to take, labelled A to D.

Note: This guide is for measuring individual flat panels — screens and tarpaulins — that fit over the exposed mesh areas of a run. It is not for a full five-sided cover that encloses the whole run. If that's what you need, use our full run cover guide instead.

Important

Provide exact measurements with no extra allowance added. Kuvr® adds a standard tolerance of +25 mm (1 in) to the width and depth for a comfortable fit; no allowance is added to the height. You can measure in centimetres, inches, or metres — you choose your preferred unit when you configure the cover.

Please include photos

Photos of your outdoor run (Type G), taken from a few angles alongside your measurements, help us understand the exact shape of each mesh area and get your panels right from the outset. Including a tape measure in shot for scale is ideal.

The measurements

A — Height of front (excluding legs and roof overhang)

The vertical height of the front face of the enclosed section only — from the top of the front frame down to the bottom of the frame. Do not include the legs below it, and stop at the frame, ignoring any roof overhang above.

B — Overall width

The full width across the front of the hutch at its widest, from the outside of one side to the outside of the other.

C — Overall depth

The front-to-back depth of the enclosed section, measured at the base of the body (excluding any roof overhang).

D — Height of rear (excluding legs and roof overhang)

The vertical height of the rear face of the enclosed section, from the top of the rear frame down to the bottom of the frame. Exclude the legs below and any roof overhang above.

Frequently asked questions

Which panels should I measure?

Measure each exposed mesh area you want covered as a separate flat panel — typically the front, the sides, and any open ends. Give the measurements for each panel separately so we can cut each screen to fit its own opening.

Should I measure the mesh opening or the frame?

Measure to the outside of the timber frame around each mesh area, not just the mesh itself. The screen fixes over the frame with eyelets and ties, so it needs to span the full framed opening.

Do I measure over an existing screen or cover?

No. Remove any old screen or cover and measure the bare frame. Measuring over an existing cover adds thickness and gives an inaccurate size.

My run isn't shown in any of the diagrams — what should I do?

Choose the diagram closest to your run’s shape and send photos of your run from a few angles alongside your measurements. We’ll use the photos to confirm the exact panels and get the fit right.
