Why do clear tarpaulins have an edge reinforcement strip?

What the video covers
The Flexi 30 (the thinner of our two clear fabrics) has a white edging strip in the hem as standard. That's out of necessity: the eyelets need something strong to grip, and without the strip they'd pull out of the thinner material fairly easily. The Ultra 50 is a thicker, more rugged fabric, so simply doubling the material over on the hem gives the eyelets a strong surface to sit in.
Coloured edging is available on both. White is the standard on the Flexi 30, but other colours can go into either material — it comes down to personal preference.

Good morning guys, from the wood sheds. I'm just going to talk quickly about edging strips — coloured reinforcement in the edges of our clear tarpaulins or clear screens. The one on the left is a Flexi 30 material; it's the thinner of the two clear fabrics that we stock. The one on the right is the Ultra 50; it's a thicker, more clear fabric.
The Flexi 30 has, as standard, a white edging strip in the hem, as you can see. That is kind of out of necessity, because the eyelets that are inserted need something fairly strong just to grip onto — without an edging strip the eyelets would pull out pretty easily. And that's not to say the material isn't strong, it's just a little bit thinner. Whereas the 50 is quite a rugged, thick material, and simply by doubling over the material on the hem it creates quite a strong surface into which we just put the eyelets.
Now, we can put coloured strips into the Ultra 50 material, there's no problem doing that; and similarly, the standard in the Flexi 30 is white, but we can put other colours into this material as well. So coloured edging is absolutely possible — it really comes down to personal preference and what you want. But anything, really, is possible at the end of the day. So I hope that helps.
